About Us

Welcome To
Casa de las Estrella

A small farm near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that is dedicated to the Azteca Horse

Azteca horses today are a mix of Mexican Criollo, Andalusian, Lusitano, and Quarter Horse blood. Blood percentages are quite strict and slightly different to the American Azteca registry, which allows American Paint Horse genes as well. Foals must meet the Mexican Azteca phenotype to be eligible for registration.

Many admirers of the Mexican Azteca horse say it looks like an Andulusian from the front and a Quarter Horse from the back. The head is elegant, with a straight or convex profile. A slightly arched neck leads to a broad chest and long, sloping shoulders.

Aztecas have short, strong, straight backs and very muscular hindquarters. The legs have strong joints, prominent tendons, and well-proportioned feet.

Dressage Phase

Dressage, in which the horse and rider perform obligatory movements in a freestyle dressage test to music within a specified time scale.

Ease of Handling

Ease of Handling Trial, a gymkhana-type event in which horses must overcome obstacles similar to those likely to appear in the field, such as bridges and gates. The obstacle course is designed to show the partnership between horse and rider.

Speed Phase

Speed, where similar obstacles to ease of handling must be overcome, but against time.
